When homeschooling, it can be difficult to separate home and school for your child — but it’s an important part of ensuring that your child can both work hard at school and enjoy their free time. At YMI Classroom, we understand the challenges associated with homeschooling. We are here to help you make the most of it with our homeschooling curriculum and other teaching resources, including the tips on our blog. Create a Devoted School Space
While it can be tempting to work at the kitchen table, setting aside a space in your home devoted to learning is important. This space should be free of distractions and clearly defined as a place to focus on school work. For homeschoolers, this could be their bedrooms, but consider setting up a desk somewhere else in the house — such as an extra room or guest room. Not only will this help your child physically separate home and school, but it will also serve as a reminder that homeschooling isn’t just about having fun (though learning is fun!).
Establish Set School Hours
Setting up set school hours is key to creating a homeschool schedule that works for both you and your child. Not only will this help them get on a regular schedule, but it also creates structure in their day-to-day homeschooling experience. Additionally, setting aside a specific amount of time for homeschooling also allows you to create breaks and transitions between school and home that can be beneficial for both of you.
Be Flexible and Open-Minded
Just because you’ve created a homeschool schedule doesn’t mean it needs to be followed rigidly. Remain flexible and open to changes, as homeschooling isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. Be willing to adjust the schedule if your child needs more time for a certain subject or an extra break during the day. Remember that homeschooling should be enjoyable — not stressful!
